Mapping Homelessness In Orange County: Laguna Beach

One group in Orange County is mapping all current open homeless shelters at cities near you, from Seal Beach to San Clemente.

Mapping Homelessness In Orange County: Laguna Beach
LAGUNA BEACH, CA —During the tumultuous relocation of Orange County's transient population in recent weeks, the Voice of OC publication has mapped the location of Laguna Beach's homeless shelter/sleeping location along with 20 other jurisdictions across Orange County in a homeless shelter map that shows both existing homeless shelters and potential emergency housing zones.
Their methodology includes SB-2 emergency shelter housing zones, based on county and city information, and according to that publication, is not exhaustive with several cities still remaining to be added.
Though the city has been embroiled in lawsuits regarding the disabled homeless and the preferential treatment to Laguna's own homeless in what has been called "local preference" as reported in The Indy.
The Friendship Shelter has 45 beds, and operates the overnight facility as the result of a legal settlement, much as has been seen in Santa Ana, according to the Indy report, when in 2009 the city of Laguna Beach first declared camping in the city to be illegal, without giving an alternate location for homeless to sleep.
